Charity
Matugga
On Monday Mr Phil Chapell, (who is our link in England to Matugga Village in Uganda) visited school on Monday and spoke to the children in assembly. The School Council decided in December that some of the money from the Christmas productions should go towards Matugga. The money that the children and staff raised has bought a milking cow for the village. The children would like the cow to be named Margaret; this is in addition to our ongoing sponsorship of the two children, Peace and Mark, who attend the school over there.
Action Aid
A huge, huge thank you, to all parents and children who supplied buns for sale or who sent money for the children to buy buns. The money from the sale is for Action Aid and as a result of your generosity £300 has been forwarded to Action Aid.
Christmas Charity 2008
The School Council chose Martin House as the Christmas Charity 2008. Through very generous donations at our Infant plays, School Choir performances and Carol Service, we have raised £780.64.
Matugga
The staff raised funds in November 2008 to sponsor a teacher in Matugga Uganda. Also, we received two lovely letters from Peace and Mark, who are the children the School Council are sponsoring. The children are in an orphanage in Matugga, Uganda. It was so lovely to get a letter from the children at Christmas time.
Harvest
Thank you to all those parents and friends who were able to come to the 2008 Harvest Festival Service. It was wonderful to see so many people who were able to share their time and help to make the church as full as it was. We would like to thank all those parents for their gifts whether it was in the form of food or money. Year 6 distributed the gifts to members of the Horsforth community; they were very appreciative. The money raised (£319.21) has been sent off to the charity, Oxfam.
Jeans for Genes Day
Thank you to all those parents, staff and children who donated money on on the day. We raised £477.43 for a very worthwhile charity.
Funds Raised
During our 2008 Summer Term money was raised from sponsored walk and bun sales. The total of money raised follows:
British Heart Foundation £744.90
This money was raised in memory of Stan Duthie, our former Chair of Governors.
Mattuga £1193.10
This money was raised to be used for the 2 children we sponsor in Mattuga Uganda.
Rebuild a School Project
We have been raising money towards the rebuilding of a school in india through the charity World Vision. We have raised a fabulous £4,000! However, while we have been raising this sum the project has ended. Fortunately, the opportunity has arisen to support a project based in a village in Uganda called Matugga. The project is supported by a church in Ben Rhydding that has close connections with the people running The Revival Christian Life Centre in Matugga. www.revivalcentrematugga.org.uk The centre has a primary school of 450 pupils, a secondary school of 180, an orphanage of 105 children, who attend the schools, and a clinic. The next project is to build a vocational centre for the ophans to learn essential life skills and so become useful members of their community. This proect was not thought possible until 2010, but our £4,000 makes it a possiblity right now! The cheque was presented to Phil Chappell who helps to manage the sponsorship programme for the Revival Centre in our assembly.
Candlelighters
We have received a certificate from Candlelighters, thanking us for our donation of £661, which was raised at our Nativity Plays, Carol Service and Carol singing at Morrisons.
Oxfam Certificate
This certificate was recently awarded to our school for raising £350 for the charity Oxfam.
