This term we have been looking at the work of sculptor Giacometti. We looked at some pictures of his work and discussed how his sculptures were of peoples shadows and that they often were very thin with stretched bodies. We decided to make our own sculptures of Stick Man from our class story using foil in the style of Giacometti.Giacometti Sculptures
Byland class will have outdoor PE on a Tuesday afternoon and indoor PE on a Thursday afternoon, please ensure all kits are named and in school on these days.
All of year 1 will have their dinner at 12 0'clock and playtime will be from 12:30-1:00.
Your child should have come home with a new reading book today, we will aim to change books 1-2 times per week depending on if your child has read. These will be changed on a Monday and a Friday- to enable this to happen please ensure your child has their book and record with them on these days.
Each week your child will be given 5/6 spellings to learn at home. These will be a mixture of key words and phonic words associated with the sounds we are learning in class that week. These will be handed out on a Thursday and tested in class the following Thursday. We will also send home some home learning challenges which you may want to complete with your child. These are not compulsory and will not be assessed but would benefit your child's learning. These might be maths, topic or science related.
In year 1 we use tapestry regularly to evidence the practical learning that takes place in and outside of the classroom. We also welcome any pictures/news you have to share via tapestry and will endeavour to give your child the opportunity to share this in the classroom.
Show and tell-
Show and tell will take place on a Thursday afternoon, this is the only time children are aloud to bring in things from home.
