We went back in time to our school in the year 1881. The layout of the desks changed, our clothes looked different, our teachers were known as ma'am and each carried a cane and our behaviour was impeccable! After a morning of the 3Rs the afternoon was spent enjoying Victorian indoor and outdoor games.
Victorian DayLook at us! Can you guess which books we are from? We spent some time perfecting our speaking skills before we finished the day by reading to our buddies.
World Book DayYear 4 enjoyed a range of stories from 3 different story tellers. We heard about the Golem of Prague, how animals came to be in the Just So Stories and laughed at Roald Dahl's revolting rhymes.
Story Telling WeekWe were all given names of children who lived in Horsforth in Victorian times. We used the 1881 census to find out about ourselves and our families. We then went in search of our Victorian houses. Some of us lived in grand houses with servants whereas some of us had to share a 2 bedroom house with 7 other family members.
Victorian housesOur basketball lessons in school culminated in a competition between each of our Year 4 classes and Year 4s from other Horsforth primary schools. We had an exhausting but fun morning.
BasketballEvery morning and afternoon we wake up and shake up with '5 a day'
Let's get going...Year 4 braved the elements to complete our 'Welly Walk' in aid of Children in Need. It rained and hailed and the wind blew but we had a great time slipping in the mud and kicking up the leaves on our way round Hall Park. Thank you for your donations.
Children in NeedIn Year 4 we all learn to play the clarinet. Lots of us also have music tuition; learning to play the flute, clarinet, recorder and violin. Many of us play in the school band after school on a Wednesday.
MusicWe had a Roman visitor in Y4 to tell us all about the Roman invasion of Britain and about the lives of Roman soldiers. If he had been a real Roman, how old would he be now?
